Installing & Setting up *vent*

Postby Akishaa » Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:54 pm

*Vent* or Ventrilo is our communication system used for raids and chatting. This is a MUST HAVE if you want to raid since we need to communicate the boss strategies and raid members have callouts. We will no longer type out instructions as this takes far too long... and we're too busy focused on our tasks at hand to read raid chat during a boss fight.
You will find the program download at:
Simply download the applicable program from the list of *Client Programs*. Once you have downloaded the appropriate client you can start the installer.

Before you begin you need to know several things before you can connect to a server.
1) The server's hostname or IP address.
2) The server's port number.
3) The server's case sensitive password (if a password is required).

The server hostname and port number are available ingame on our guild info. Ask any officer for our password and our password IS case sensitive.

Once you have these three pieces of information you can begin setting up the Ventrilo client.

Now, lets do a quick setup.

1) Start the ventrilo program: Either create a shortcut on your desktop... OR... Click on Start - All Programs - and then click on Ventrilo. This will display another menu option called Ventrilo that will start the actual program.

2) Click on the "->" button that is next to the first pulldown window called "User Name". This will open a new window where you can create a logon name to be used when connecting to a server.

3) Click the "New" button. This will open a small window where you can enter your logon name. The name you enter is usually your known ingame name.

4) Click the "OK" button. You can come back to this window and click on the help button later on if you want more detailed information about what the other options mean and how to use them.

5) Now that we are back to the main window click on the "->" button that is next to the pulldown window called "Server". This will open a new window where you can enter the details about the server you would like to connect to.

6) Click the "New" button. This will open a small window where you can enter a name that will describe the new server definition. Here would be where you enter "Dawghouse", "Da Dawghouse, or "In Da Dawghouse". The server name will show up in the main Ventrilo window.

7) Click "OK".

8) Click on the "Hostname or IP" input box and enter the server hostname or IP address you found on our guild info tab (it is the

9) Click on the "Port number" input box and enter the servers port number. The program will automatically display the default port number of 3784 but you change this to our port number.

10) Click on the "Password" input box and enter the server's password which was provided to you by an officer. NOTE: Our password contains both letters and numbers and is case sensitive !

11) Click "OK" to return to the Ventrilo main window.

12) Click "Connect" to establish a connection between you and the server you just defined.

13) Click on the Setup button and configure all of the different options that control Ventrilo. This is very important when it comes to controlling the microphone or input source. Once in the Setup dialog click on the "Help" button. Be sure to read what all of the options are and what they mean. This is very important for the Voice page.

Configuring the Set up options:
Voice Tab:
Enable outgoing voice communications - check
Use Push-to-Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode) - check
Use Direct Input to detect Hotkey - check
Discard Hotkey is now unavailable
Play Key Clicks - check

Hotkey Box: Simply hit the keyboard key you want to use (most of us use the tilde ~ key)

Use Direct Sound - check

Output Device - choose from the dropdown menu (Mine is: Speakers (Logitach USB Headset H540) ... just make sure it matches what you are using.

Use Direct Sound - check

Input Device - again choose from the dropdown menu (Mine is: Microphone (Logitach USB Headset H540) ... just make sure it matches what you are using.

At this point you are now ready to communicate with the rest of us !

Let's do a test of your voice so say something when we ask you to. This allows the rest of us to turn our volume up or down (we can do this individually with each person in vent) and vice versa.
- the volume control is found by right click on the person's name and a dropdown menu will appear.... choose Miscellaneous... choose special effects ... *Add* volume to the other side .. click Properties and adjust the volume... close up to return back to the main ventrilo.

Rules of Ventrilo Use:

Our vent is paid for on a yearly basis for the use of Dawghouse guild members. We do have a select number of non-guild members who join us for raid nites and you will see, on occasion, in our vent. *IF* you are questing/running dungeons/etc with a friend and would like to use our vent ... contact an officer for permission. Our vent info and password is NEVER to be handed out indiscriminately.

Our vent chat room(s) are not to be used for anything inappropriate. Please keep any flirtatious comments on the right side of the fence. If you don't understand what that means let me spell it out for you: Respect the spouse / SO/ Partner / GF/ BF of every guild member whether they are gamers or not. This eliminates ANY chance of causing any unnecessary problems in someone else's home life. I'm sure you get my message now loud and clear.

The #1 rule: We have a ZERO TOLERANCE toward aggressive behaviour, personal attacks, prejudicial or slurring remarks regarding race or colour, national or ethnic origin, religion, age, family or marital status, sex, disability (either physical or mental) or sexual orientation. You will be banned from vent and booted from the guild without hesitation for violations.

Vent is a means for us to enjoy lively conversations and raid communications. Be courteous and respectful of one another and we'll all continue to get along :D
